Ministry within the Catholic Community Diocesan ministry A number of sisters have been, and continue to be, engaged in adult faith education at the diocesan level. In the diocese of Parramatta, a Sister of Charity was appointed for three years (1997-2000) as Director of Sacraments of Initiation. With the support of an advisory committee, she was responsible for writing the Diocesan policy on Sacraments of Initiation for children. She visited and supported the parishes in establishing a parish based, family centred process for this. Her work involved workshops for sacramental coordinators and parent faith formation. During the same period another sister was Director of C.C.D. in the Parramatta Diocese. Her ministry involved providing for the faith and professional development of the volunteer Catechists who provided Special Religious Education for the catholic children in the state schools of the Diocese. A further aspect of her educational ministry was encouraging and supporting individual Catechists to take on leadership roles within their parishes. Since 2003, another sister has worked as a member of the Diocesan Institute of Mission Education for the Parramatta Diocese. This role involves her in the ministry of adult faith education and includes the development and writing of programs and delivery of course units. In the Diocese of Broken Bay, another sister, who has a background in secondary education and further theological qualifications, is responsible for the development of, and education in of adults in, the sacramental program throughout the diocese. |
