Ministry within the Catholic Community

Vicar for Religious

In the 1980s, for the first time, a Sister of Charity was appointed by the then Archbishop of Sydney to the role of Vicar for Religious within the Archdiocese. In this role, the sister is available to all members of Religious Institutes to give advice and support. She is a link between the Archbishop and the Religious Institutes in the archdiocese and represents the Archbishop when directed.

In 2000, another Sister of Charity who is also a canon lawyer, was appointed by Archbishop Bathersby to be the Vicar for Religious for the Brisbane Archdiocese; she continues in this role to the present time.
