Sister Colleen Holohan

My name is Sr Colleen Holohan rsc and I work Monday to Thursday as Home and School Liaison at St Canice’s Primary School Katoomba in the upper Blue Mountains.

I support the school by visiting families on a regular basis.  These visits are very informal and give families the opportunity to have a chat or raise any concerns they may have in a comfortable environment.  I work collaboratively with the Principal, staff, families and the wider community, this is an integral part of the school communication process.

I conduct morning Tai Chi to encourage relaxation and run weekly craft groups for parents & friends, mainly as a social gathering but the items we create are sold during the year, donating all proceeds to the school.

Thursday mornings I run a preschool group for children who will begin Kindergarten the following year. This enables them to become aware of the school environment and assists with their transition to school.  As part of this process I become involved with the Orientation Days and work in the classroom at the beginning of each year.

Once a year I conduct “Seasons for Growth” for students who have suffered a loss, whether it be from a death or separation, this is a program designed to assist in the grieving process.

As a member of staff I have various duties and enjoy the interaction with both students & staff.
