Sisters of Charity Future Sponsorship

The intention of this web page is to communicate Sisters of Charity Future Sponsorship issues and developments; it will be progressively updated. In 2006 it will focus on the work of various Committees in developing the Sisters of Charity future Sponsorship model.

Developing the agreed Sponsorship model

In 2006, a Sisters of Charity Future Sponsorship Steering Committee has been established, in order to provide information and advice to the Congregational Leader and Council (CL&C) on the development of the agreed sponsorship model for the incorporated Ministries of the Congregation (Community Care, Education and Healthcare) and to develop a proposal for moving forward.

The sponsorship model which is currently being explored is the development of a Public Juridic Person (PJP).

This follows many years of consideration on Future Sponsorship by the Sisters of Charity, with a deepening awareness among the Congregation that the role for the religious increasingly involves a sharing of spirituality and theological knowledge with those who will lead the Sisters of Charity Ministries in the future.

Establishment of Steering Committee and Taskforces

To progress Sponsorship matters, the Sisters of Charity Future Sponsorship Steering Committee will build on the work of the Ad-Hoc Governance Committee of 2004-05, and will oversee the work of two Task Force Groups, namely, the Prophetic Culture Taskforce and the Structure and Framework Taskforce.

The Steering Committee and Task Forces are headed by:

  • Ms Kerry Brettell – Chair, Sisters of Charity Future Sponsorship Steering Committee
  • Laureen Dixon rsc – Chair, Prophetic Culture Task Force
  • Ms Annette Schmiede – Chair, Structure and Framework Task Force

The first meetings of these Committees take place in March 2006.

Sisters of Charity Reflectors Groups

Reflectors Groups made up of Sisters of Charity have also been established, one in Sydney and one in Melbourne. The task of the Reflectors Groups is to discern and reflect on the progress of the Steering Committee and Taskforce Groups in the spirit of Mary Aikenhead. The Reflectors Groups will be co-ordinated by:

  • Margaret Beirne rsc – Co-ordinator of Reflectors Groups

The Reflectors Groups will aim to meet within two weeks of each Steering Committee meeting, in order to reflect on the outcomes of the meeting.
