Sacred Heart Parish Cabramatta Farewells Sisters17th December 2012
On Sunday, 16th December 2012, Sacred Heart Parish Cabramatta, farewelled the Sisters of Charity of Australia from this Parish where they have served since 1935.
Fr Patrick McAuliffe and Fr Liem Duong concelebrated the Mass and the children from the school provided the choir and readers, with many more children attending.
Two children from kindergarten led Sr Frances Graham, into the Church in the Entrance procession while the school banner was proudly displayed on the beautifully decorated sanctuary. Sr Frances will continue her ministry in 2013 at All Saints Primary School, Liverpool.
Fr McAuliffe recalled the enormous changes that have taken place since the first Principal, Sr M. Hubert and one companion commenced the school with 75 pupils in February 1935 in a shed on the semi-rural property.
After Mass Sr Frances was presented with a beautiful arrangement of flowers and a plaque to remind her of her time in ministry at the school, where she herself was educated. Two parishioners who were also students with Sr Frances were also honoured.
After Mass all were provided with refreshments in the true spirit of hospitality that characterises the Parish. A special cake was cut by Sr Frances and Sr Annette Cunliffe, the Congregational Leader, with Sr Margaret Valentine, a former Principal and Mrs Margaret Hogan, the current Principal.
The Sisters are most grateful to Fr McAuliffe and the wonderful School and Parish people and the Sisters of Our Lady of the Southern Cross for your kindness over so many years and your graciousness now that we can no longer provide a Sister for the school or Parish.
