When we wake in the morning, we never know what the day will bring.- Mary Aikenhead

This is a quote that has stayed with me, because it speaks so simply and so truly to what this work is all about — and it is wonderful to see that DWCS has the freedom to live it out in real time.

That freedom looked like this: travelling from the city out to a farmer doing it tough through yet another Queensland drought. Sitting with him in the full, unrelenting Queensland sun — just being present, listening, letting him know he wasn't alone. Then, before the day was done, checking into a hotel for a quick shower before making the 60-kilometre drive to an aged care facility to visit his mum.

One day. One person. So many different needs — and DWCS was there for all of them.

That is what it means to respond with heart. Not waiting for the right moment or the perfect conditions, but showing up — across the kilometres, across the heat, across whatever the day asks of you.
