Providence Provides

The Care of the Earth committee in mid 2025 decided it would work with our Sister Congregation on the project Clean Water for Malawi. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa and the Sisters began working there in 2011.

The project aims to provide shallow wells and boreholes so that clean water is more accessible without the need to walk for many kilometres in often unsafe terrain to collect it.

The Sisters of Charity in Australia sent their Christmas donations to the project. The Sisters in Malawi said it was a real answer to prayer because five villages had approached them between October and November asking for boreholes. At the time there were not funds available. Then the donation from the Australian Sisters arrived.

Divine Providence!

Sr Patricia Lenihan the leader of our sister congregation said “this money will be enough to sink 6 boreholesand will make such a difference to so many people”.

Villagers are encouraged to keep the boreholes in good condition and enter into contracts. They are given help to maintain the boreholes. Communities are also educated about tree-planting and sustainable farming.
